‘People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully.’
~ Steve Jobs

Do What Matters is a simple way to choose priorities based on impact and meaning.
- Brainstorm a to-do list of as many tasks as you can think of.
- Now, give each task a score from 1-10 for level of impact and another score from 1-10 for depth of meaning.
- Impact is about positive outcomes for either yourself, for other people and/or for the organisation.
- Meaning is about how important and relevant this is to your vision, mission, purpose and values.
3. Add the two scores together and it will be immediately apparent which tasks are worthy goals to pursue – those with the highest scores.
When you prioritise high-meaning, high-impact tasks, it keeps the focus on worthy goals. Those that are important, thrilling and daunting enough to matter.
